And to the republic for which it stands…

We as a nation have apparently lost our collective minds.

Our founding fathers formed a country in which freedom of speech and thought were paramount.   We have, for the last 232 years stood on the shoulders of those giants, waving our hands in the air, shouting to the heavens that WE ARE FREE!  WE ARE GOOD!  WE ARE AMERICA!

The right to freedom of speech, is apparently, no longer accepted in some circles.  The right to express your thoughts must now be stopped and you should only speak and/or think what is appropriate for you to speak.

What am I jabbering about you ask?  Recently it seems that those who would express an opinion that is perhaps less than fawning about the vice presidential candidate are to be ostracized, threatened and abused.  Case in point: Kathleen Parker writes in the Chicago Tribune that she thought Sarah Palin was out of her league and might want to think about stepping down.  She has been called a traitor, an idiot, she has been told that her mother should have aborted her and probably much, much worse.

This isn’t just a Republican issue.  It’s an AMERICAN issue.  It speaks to the very heart of what we have become.  We are a divided nation.  Our government is bitterly divided.  The very leaders that we look to for guidance and advice are showing us that a bitter hatred of anyone with an opposing viewpoint is not only to be accepted, but encouraged.

Abraham Lincoln said a house divided against itself cannot stand.  I fear for our house.
