What people with too much time on their hands do

On a site I frequent called Coudal Partners, there’s a link today about a guy who reviews escalators and elevators.  Not sure if this guy does this for a living or it’s just a fun little hobby that he enjoys.

Youtube is, frankly, not my favorite place.  It’s full of inane bullshit mostly.  People posting videos of themselves singing along to songs when they really shouldn’t be posting either because, frankly no one wants to see them or because they really can’t sing, idiot politicians yelling at constituents, or inappropriately dressed little girls dancing inappropriately

There are, every now and again, videos that are indescribable really.  And really should remain that way.  For instance I give you White Tiger 5 in which a man? dresses up as a white tiger as a prelude to sex, a little boy who thinks he’s a stripper

I could go on and on, but my point is…um…

Wait, I kid.  My point started with the guy who reviews elevators and escalators and posts the videos to youtube.  Doesn’t this person have ANYTHING better to do with their lives?  Really? Countless videos of elevators and escalators.

I guess my life doesn’t seem so bad.

Lego Man In Space

Two 17 year old kids built a balloon and sent it to space.  With a lego man.

1990…er…2000…um…2010…wait…

Interesting article on Vanity Fair about the changes we’ve gone through as a society since the early 90′s/late 80′s.   Or rather the lack of changes we’ve gone through as a society since the early 90′s/late 80′s.

The author does point out a few things that have changed.  The internet really wasn’t around then in the form that it is now, Television was still mostly the network swill and women dressed a little more demurely, one didn’t see the amount of breasts that one sees now days.  Not that it’s a bad thing, far from it, just sayin…

Why the lack of changes? According to the author,

“Why is this happening? In some large measure, I think, it’s an unconscious collective reaction to all the profound nonstop newness we’re experiencing on the tech and geopolitical and economic fronts. People have a limited capacity to embrace flux and strangeness and dissatisfaction, and right now we’re maxed out. So as the Web and artificially intelligent smartphones and the rise of China and 9/11 and the winners-take-all American economy and the Great Recession disrupt and transform our lives and hopes and dreams, we are clinging as never before to the familiar in matters of style and culture.”

I agree and frankly, I d0n’t have a problem with this.  Change requires, well, change. I don’t know about you but I’ve got enough going on in my life that has forced change and I really want to cling to something safe and something that I know.

But that’s just me…

Blues? No thank you.

Look, I’m pretty open minded.  Generally pretty accepting of all things different, new, etc.  There is one thing that I absolutely refuse to be open minded about; the blues.

I can’t stand the blues.  Seems like most “blues” you hear these days is the same old drivel.  Played (if live) by a bunch of suburban white men at local bars and music joints around town, and it seems like they are all playing the same thing.  Over and over and over and over.  Badly.

Every one of these bands will, without fail, have the following: 1 guy who is the “swinger” of the band.  This man will have a beret or a stupid fedora, maybe a goatee, often both.  2.  a bald guy. 3.) a man who will have jeans on, a black shirt and a wild colored tie.

They will play their music in a competent manner.  Very unexciting, but competent.  They will have groupies.  Without fail there will be an older lady there who has had at least one, maybe several too many drinks.  She will dance in front of the band as they play their shitty music.  She will sway in a manner that is supposed to be seductive but really is just stupid.

If it’s on the radio, as it was this morning, it will all sound the same.  Lame ass solos, “growling” vocals and music that you’ve heard 90 million times over.  They will bore you with their supposed authenticity.  You can picture the band.   There will be one guy wearing a beret, or a stupid fedora. The singer will have the stupid crazy colored tie.  He will think he’s cool.  He’s not.

Stop The SOPA Act

Stop SOPA

I’ve censored the following, in protest of a bill that gives any corporation and the US government the power to censor the internet–a bill that could pass THIS WEEK. To see the uncensored text, and to stop internet censorship, visit: http://americancensorship.org/posts/20613/uncensor

Uncensor This
Rep. Lamar Smith, a man who is soundly in the pockets of the American film industry, has proposed the SOPA act to “stop online piracy” when in reality it’s a bill that allows for censorship of the Internet by some nebulous government agengcy.  If this bill passes, then the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States will or should be declared null and void.

contact your congress person today to let them know you’re against the SOPA act.  Do it today.  Please.

Fight For The Future

Nice going Lowes, Bank of America, Dell

A picture of an obviously anti American Muslim family being anti-American and it's clear that they're plotting the downfall of America.

A recent story on thinkprogress.com tells of a new reality show on TLC about being Muslim in America has had ads pulled by a number of companies due to a scumbag religious organization calling for a boycott of the show.

The group called the Florida Family Association, likes to brag apparently that 65 of the 67 companies that it has targeted have pulled their ads.

This angers me in a few different ways.  First and foremost, what the hell kind of country have we become when a religious lobbying group can dictate the advertising dollars of large, major companies by using what I’m assuming to be lies and half truths?  Isn’t this America, land of the free?  I understand that if I question the freedom of speech of companies to advertise that many religous freaks will say the same thing.  Don’t they have a freedom to speak their mind and don’t the companies have a freedom to listen?  Yes they do.  They do have a right to speak, but with that right comes a responsibility.  A responsibility to speak truth.  While I don’t have details of the campaigns wrought by the FFA, one can only imagine the shenigans that went on here.

From the article, The Islamic Circle of North America is urging concerned citizens to call Lowe’s and protest their withdrawal of advertising: “We urge the American Muslim community and our friends, family, neighbors and all people of conscience to call Lowe’s CEO Robert Niblock at (704) 758-2084 or Executive Support Mr. Andrew Kilby at (866) 900-4650 and respectfully complain about this decision.”

Jesus god…no!

Corporate Zombie Needs Coffee

Corporate Zombie Needs Coffee

Apparently we’re running out of coffee.  This really is the end of the world.  I’ll be in my bunker sipping a nice, steaming hot cup o’joe.

Repent the end of coffee is nigh

F*)@ck the police

douchebag cop

Douchebag cop pepper spraying protesters sitting on the ground

I’m not one to generally say things like F(@#ck the police but in this case I think it’s justified and called for.  Notice in the above picture that the people on the ground aren’t really fighting the cops.  They’re SITTING on the ground with their arms linked.  The douchebag cop is spraying them with pepper spray.  Why is this allowed in the United States of America? What the hell is wrong with us?

so long, farewall, auf weidersehen, goodbye

My mouse died.

Sure it’s no big deal to you.  Everyone has a dead mouse now and again.  But this mouse…this mouse was much more to me.  It was a mouse.  Don’t you get it?  A mouse.

Yeah, guess I’d better go to the office supply store.

New toy

So my wife got a new iPad for a graduation present. I feel it’s not quite the cool toy she thought it was and is kind of at a loss as to what she should do with it.

I personally enjoy it, but that’s me.
