Yes we will get fooled again

Because we do that.

The Who sucked.  It pains me to say this as I say this as an old Who fan.  Old in whatever sense of the term you wish to use here.  They’re all correct.

I don’t understand the power behind events like the superbowl arranging for 70 year old guys to play on a huge stage to a crowd elventy nine gazillion people. I just don’t get it.

Watching The Who last night I felt old.  I was a huge Who fan back in the late 70′s/early 80′s.  That’s when they were rockin’.  They were touring, filling up stadiums and generally causing trouble whereever they went.  They were THE rock and roll show that fall.  The were THE concert that most of us had waited a long time to see.

But last night…man….

Pete Townshend is old and it showed.  Roger Daltrey is old and it showed, albeit to a lesser degree than Pete.

I’d love, love to see them in an intimate setting, maybe all acoustic…doing old hits, talking to the audience.  Reminiscing.  But not on the huge stage like last  night.  They just can’t carry it anymore. Nor should they.

They don’t have anything to prove to anyone.  They’re one of the finest rock bands ever, so why last night?

I’d rather see Janet Jackson’s pasty-covered nipple than Pete Townsend’s pasty white belly again!
